Happy New Year from the staff at The Shanghai Literary Review! As 2023 comes to a close, we are excited to let you know about all of the changes and upcoming developments for 2024.
Issue 8: Themed, & Critical
TSLR are currently hard at work reading submissions and making final decisions on the content for our next issue, due out in the summer of 2024. We are thrilled to be centering our issue on the theme for the first time. The theme for 8 is FLUX. Issue 8 will also be featuring a new Criticism section.
New Editors
We are happy to announce that we have several new editors and editorial staff coming on board for this coming issue (8). In the next few months, our newsletter will be featuring interviews with each new staff member, so that you might get to know them better.
New Editors:
Carlos Rojas - Criticism
Tiffany Luk - Visual Art
Tammy Lai Ming Ho - Translation
Paul French - Nonfiction
New Editorial Assistants:
Maya Peak
Mary Mulualem
We thank our longstanding former editors, Mike Fu, Alexandre Gobin, and Kenny Ong for their incredible commitment and beautiful work for the magazine over the past six years working on these sections, and we wish them a fruitful and restful break from their editorial duties. Mike and Kenny were two of the four original founding editors of TSLR.
Payment to Contributors
TSLR is incredibly proud to announce that we will begin paying contributors, starting with this year’s issue 8. Though just a small honorarium for now, we have been working very hard to make this happen, and we are excited about this new direction and the possibilities it opens up for us.
Thank you very much, again, for reading and supporting The Shanghai Literary Review in 2023. We look forward to bringing you inspiring and thought-provoking new work by established writers and artists, as well as introducing you to new talent from the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. See you in 2024.
Just an out of the blue comment: I'm a writer from London, and I just arrived in, or near, Shanghai. I would be very glad to help out with anything that you're up to and would love to attend any readings, too.
